halifax insurance not cover for missed departure ?

i had a holiday booked to go to florida , i work on an oil platform in the north sea so need a helicopter to fly to and from the rig .
last month a helicopter ditched on safety grounds , this meant there was no flying for 5 days to our platform resulting in me and my wife not getting to the airport for our holiday. i actually called insurance and asked if i could move flights forward a day at acost of 700 pounds they said we would cover that ? so i did .
cancelled holiday and got some money back , wrote letter and completed form and sent to halifax ( ultimate reward account )
been told getting nothing back , letter coming out to me today .
why am i not covered ? are all north sea oil workers running risk of not being covered by insurance , it may happen again to any oil rig worker .

is insurance realyy any good given to me by halifax i have also to pay for this ? am worried if my phone etc insurance is any good now !!!!!!!

surely after being told they would not pay the £700 pound change but would pay for the original flights and hotel how can they change their mind , the person you talk to on the phone acts for the insurance , i even have a name but " know one of thst name works here "

is this a case of mis selling like PPI , i have bought something that does not cover me at all

any help would be appreciated
can i appeal against my insurance to an ombudsman ?

Check the full T&Cs of insurance to ensure it meets your needs before you purchase it.

    why wasnt it helpful.

All insurances differ, only by reading the policy and the T and C would you know if the insurance fits the bill

There are usually very specific reasons covered for missed departure such as the breakdown of scheduled public transport taking you to the airport. I very much doubt any policy would state that it covers the reason you missed your departure unfortunately.

However I would check the complaints procedure of the policy and carry it out, taking it to the ombudsman if necessary as the circumstances are quite unusual.
  • Most, if not all travel insurance policies will not pay out for claims where the loss has resulted from "Flying except as a fare paying passenger".

Even though your claim wasn't directly related to the cancellation of the helicopter flight, it was still a result of it.
If you missed the Florida flight because of a scheduled flight being cancelled then the insurers may well have paid out, but not for an unscheduled private flight.

I'm confused, you say you cancelled the holiday and got some money back ? But then you say you moved the flights forward a day ? Did you go on your holiday or not ?
