Visiting OVO's site and asking for a quote will only get you a comparision between them and your present supplier - Switchwithwhich will give data for the whole market

Hi there, Rather late to the ball, I have been checking some gas/electricity switching site to compare prices. I am particularly taken by a small energy supplier (*v* Energy) because I approve of their simple to understand pricing policy. I entered my annual kWh for both gas and electricity on the *v* web site and was given a £176 saving. I also entered the same information on the Which/Switch site, and half way down the results page, *v* appeared with a saving of only £86. With almost a £100 price difference, how does one know if one is getting a good deal with any of the energy companies? Energy pricing is confusing but I am finding that so is the information supplied by the comparison web sites. Discuss? Rex

I presume your gas is supplied by BG and your electricity by E.on.

Using your data on the Which site I get the following information:
(Note: ensure you opt for the Standard, no standing charge option for the gas tariff)

You will spend £1127.49 if you stay with your existing suppliers & tariffs

You could save £175.90 moving to Ovo (annual cost £951.59)

(Or you could save £237.39 moving to nPower Energy Online January 2014 - annual cost £890.10, but this is not a fixed tariff)

Using your data on the Ovo site I get the following information:

You could save £176 moving to Ovo (annual cost £952)

And so once again we see consistency between the comparison sites :)
