Special Delivery - Return To Sender Query

Sold an expensive VHF radio on Sunday and sent Monday using Special Delivery 1pm Next Day.
Just checked the tracking to confirm delivery and get the following message :
"Your item with reference ZW932392400GB is being returned to sender. This is either because the item wasn't picked up by the recipient, or because we couldn't deliver it. Sorry for any inconvenience."
No 'sorting office, awaiting collection' or 'sorry you were out' card message. Just returned to sender within a day?!
Anyone have any idea? Cost nearly £8 to send so a bit p!ssed off that the 'guaranteed' delivery - the best the PO have (allegedly!) has been a complete waste of time and money
Can I make a claim for non delivery? Clearly hasn't happened or do I need to find out why its returned first? Also will any care be taken in it's return, Like will it be treated as SD on its return to me? like I say a decent, expensive radio that I don't want to lose/refund the buyer
Cheers in advance for any help!

I thought the post office kept special delivery parcels for 18 days before being returned to sender.

It sounds like maybe the buyer refused delivery, or there was a mistake with the address. Have you contacted the buyer to see if there is a problem at their end, and explain the situation.
Special delivery are usually kept at the collection office for 14 days, after a delivery attempt, and only if it hasn't been collected do they return to sender.
It will be returned via special delivery
As for a claim i doubt you'll be able to claim as they have attempted to deliver, maybe when you recieve the package back there will be a note explaining why they couldn't deliver. Although it does seem very likely there was a problem with the address.
Sorry i can't offer any more advice,0
