I am in two minds about what to do?
Book a hotel and have their set menu which will cost a fortune
or
Book a hall and have my own caterers.

For our wedding reception we had a hotel i was lucky enough to be able to shop around all the hotels in the area to get the best deal.
Our wedding was 2 years ago and we paid £25 per head for a 3 course meal and drinks on arrival and wine on the table this also included the table plans and place cards being printed for us and flowers for the table.
We also got the honeymoon suite for the night
As for hire of a hall and caterers i really dont know
The best thing would be to shop around and ask if your gettting the best deal it may work out cheaper if your planning the ceremony there too.

Hi,
We booked a large "ballroom" above a pub and had caterers. This worked really well for us as we wanted to have it quite informal. We also enjoyed the fact that there were still plenty of nibbles about when we (esp me) were a little worse for wear....and had to sober up for the taxi home

We went for the civil ceremony & receptions in the same place
held on a fri so a discount
lol
receptions were held in the marquee in the grounds.we had a formal sit down meal ,we were able to offer our guests a choice of 4 for each course,
which had to be given in to the venue a week before the big day
yes the venue / wedding brekkie took up most of the wedding budget! but it was worth it and the fact it was all done for us ,with nothing to prepare / organise was fab !

We Had a hot Buffet at the hotel. It was really unusual because it had duck comfits, game pie, stew, jacket potatoes etc. It was really nice. we got a discount because we got married on a Thursday. They let us have Evening buffet rates for day time reception.
Also If you have your reception at a hotel they usually give you a room for the night for free. That was what we found anyway during our research.Nothing to declare

We had our reception in the local Snooker Club, they did a hot buffet at approx £3.75 a head and there was loads, provided 20 bottles of wine at £5 a bottle to go on the tables, free soft drinks for the kids, hired a disco for the evening and let us bring in our own bubbly for the toast! (It was 12 years ago and the whole thing came to about £700 all in). It worked out so well, that my next door neighbours used the same venue for there reception too!

I have done a few wedings now where they have had he best of both worlds by having a later afternoon wedding and then have a hot fork buffet evening reception.

Got married in the local town hall and had the reception at home in the garden it was fab , everyone was relaxed and no on worried if the kids made a mess and the sun shone all day long:T :T :T#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

There were a few menus to choose from each one had a veggie option and childrens also children could have a small portion of the adults meal (this is what i had cos i knew i would be excited to eat!)

Had my reception in hotel in kent;
Well the 'sit down' (starters choice/main course was roast/choice of desert) cost £25 per head.
Drinks packages started at £13 per head (arrival drink/wine for dinner/toast drink).
The kids had nuggets and chips and ice cream!!:rotfl: all the parents thought this was great!. (basically we came up with price for this they told us what it would buy!).
My brother had a hot and cold buffet everything from sandwiches to jacket potatoes! (but many people moaned cause they had 2 buffets one for 'sit down' then one for evening with disco).:rolleyes:
My best mate had just ham/pots/salad/rolls for her sit down and then a buffet in the evening was quite nice cause it was a hot day but her mum thought she new best and didnt order enough food so by the time the ast table went to get their food as you helped yourself there was hardly anything left!.:o
That would be my only worry that there wasnt enough food to go round if i had done a buffet rather than sit down.
At least with the hotel we saw/sampled food before hand! so knew what everyone would be getting.
whatever you do enjoy your day,just remember it is yours and your hubbys day so YOU decided choose food etc .....(everyone else will have to lump it if they dont like it!!):rotfl:
