reclaim bank charges help please!!!

A few years back I had an account with alliance and leicester. They charged me a lot of overdraft fees etc and when i wrote to them they refused to give me money back. I didnt have the time or the confidence to continue then but now I do. so im wondering if I would be able to claim back the charges this late on and how would I go about claiming. Alliance and leicester are now part of santander. would i speak to them to get a list of charges? Any help would be gratefully received. Thank you

If they refused the first time, what can you add now to make them change their mind ? What caused the fees ?

As far as I am aware you can claim only once, when they refuse your claim you have only 8 weeks to refuse their decision. Miss this deadline and your are banjaxed.

I think you are very likely hitting a brick wall.

  • The fees were cause by me going overdrawn, at the time i was on my own with a small child on benefits but it was the fact they were taking money for their fees from my only source of income. my son was going without because of them so it left me in hardship.

    Are you in hardship now?

The banks effectively won the court case on charges.

If you can prove they were taking from your benefits then you might be able to complain. But you should have done this at the time, it will be a hard case.

When you spoke to them originally, what reason did they give for not refunding you ? Your first call should be to Santander to ask them what they recommend.

Personally i don't think you have a case but you can ask for nothing. Hardship claims need to be dealt with at the time of hardship, not years later.
