    I would just reiterate that you can combine things from the OU and from your local university. At the very least, if you decide to go down the OU route then find out about meetings and events at your local university and try to meet people there and get involved a bit. And success at the one can be a gateway to further study at the other (I once taught a module at a 'new' university in London, and one of my students had got on the course on the strength of an OU course unit, even though he didn't actually pass it!).
