Make do and mend

I am the worst for fixing things if they break, usually items just got replaced. However in the spirit of moneysaving (aka being brassic) I decided a while back to change my ways and try to mend things if I could.
My house is minimalist and kept tidy, all bar one cupboard where everything gets chucked in. I stupidly managed to break the hose on my lovely and rather expensive vaccuum cleaner last week. To replace it would have cost well over £100 . My lovely friend recommended a vaccuum rebuild business located at an art and crafts centre nearby and said the guy could probably fix it for me. I had my doubts but in desperation took it down there on Saturday.
Turned up today to see if he had managed to sort it out and there it was all fixed and back in one piece. All he charged me was a fiver. Cue me looking like
.
I am addicted to making do and mending stuff now. Might even take my neighbour up on her offer to teach me to darn socks. What is it with boys and holes in their socks.
So what have you all mended rather than replaced this week?

The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Marisco - I think I've seen a thread on this topic on the Old Style boards so you might get some extra ideas over there x0

Yep, OS board is a good place for this sort of post. xErmutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
