How to download youtube videos safely?

I'd like to download some videos so have been looking on the www for a suitable downloader. I've found some great recomendations but then there are some people who say they got a virus after downloading the software.

Can anyone recommend a way to download with getting a virus or malware?

YTD works fine for me, been using it 6 months or so and never had any trouble. I used the ant.com downloader before that but it seemed to stop working reliably.

This is the issue, you shouldn't be downloading and installing any software as there are numerous online converters which do the job. Here are some:
