Samsung galaxy tab 2 7.0 vs Blackberry Playbook

Ok, so my parents are buying my 13 year old brother a tablet for christmas/birthday and they have decided to either get the galaxy tab or the playbook. My dad is adamant he wants to get the playbook but i'm pretty sure the Samsung is a better buy. The Samsung is more expensive but with all these cashback offers around it will turn out to be the same price. Obviously the playbook is the 64gb so huge memory but the galaxy has expandable memory with a micro sd (I think this is the case?) so its not a huge issue.
What are your thoughts? I'm no techie so I don't know if one has a better screen/battery life etc. What would you choose for a 13 year old and why?
Thank you!

Are the apps really limited on the playbook then?
That is going to be one of the main reasons for buying the tablet, my brother spends hours on my iPad on all the apps!0 -
I had the Playbook and while it had a robust construction, there was little there in terms of apps or ecosystem, plus it's aging now.
I wouldn't get the Samsung, either, Nexus 7 is much better.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

RIM are on their death knell, especially if their X doesnt make any headway.
Nexus 7 or 10 by far then galaxy tab.0 -
The Playbook can be a good buy if all you want to do is use it as a portable media player and internet device. For £129 for the 64GB, it's a great price and the build quality is excellent. However, if you want access to lots of apps and be cool with your friends (which I imagine a 13 year old would!) then I'd avoid it.
Depending on what you can afford, then I'd get either the 16GB or 32GB Nexus 7. Fantastic little device and it's the cool thing to have.0 -
