Scotland buying flat

I am a first time buyer in Scotland. No property to leave and empty property made an offer on and accepted providing my mortgage comes through.
Any ideas what sort of time frame till completion.
Applied for Nationwide mortgage. Have good credit and steady employment. House report was fine, so everything looked OK.

Applied 4 weeks ago and no word yet, is this usual o too early?
I'm so desperate to move especially as winter is coming on.
Financial advisor told me it would be through last week, now he says another week (maybe)!!!

  • Hi therer,
I am no mortgage adviser but from my last buy,it can easily take up to 6 weeks. Many variable including how busy their surveyers are, survey report and risk assessment and all sorts. Further, after that the solicitors may add delays. I would advise staying on top of them often enough as not to irritate but enough to allow them to know that you are in a rush.
  • I applied with the nationwide (also in Scotland) and hoping to complete within 6 weeks of application. So far their update texts have been regular but still a few weeks to go so fiingers crossed.
    Hope it goes well !

Your offer will have specified an entry date. This is your completion date. Your solicitor should not conclude missives on your behalf without knowing for certain that you can pay for the purchase, so won't do this until he/she is certain that your mort is in place.

6 weeks? In Scotland? What the hell is going on? In my days there 6 days was more like it. Have they caught the English Disease where everything to do with the law is dilatory and expensive?
Free the dunston one next time too.
