'Smoke free home' description

My friend and I were having a discussion today regarding the above description. She knits items to order and sells on Ebay. She describes as being from a smoke free home. However, she smokes, albeit outside the back door. I would have thought the aroma of smoke on her clothing (not very noticeable) would transfer to the knitted items. She does not wash them before despatching.
She has only recently started to sell items and isn't admitting to negative feedback.
I feel description slightly misleading, she doesn't. We have agreed to disagree.
Wondered what other ebay folks' views are.

I could smell cigarette smoke on a knitted item even if it was only handled by a smoker.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I can always smell smoke, even when people only ever smoke outside. Both my teacher DH and I can smell it instantly on childrens' homework books, and most of those parents [claim to] smoke outside too. Yucky! I would be unimpressed if it said smoke free home but wasn't 100%0

Thanks for your comments. This is my feeling too. I don't have the best sense of smell so was unable to do a 'sniff' test for her!0

Actually, I've had a couple of bad experiences with books bought on eBay smelling like an ashtray that hadn't been emptied for a month!
Both times the seller simply shrugged their shoulders, with a sense of 'so what?', but I managed to get a refund, albeit after something of an unnecessary struggle!

The problem is smokers don't realise how much they carry the smell on them. If i 'm on the train and sit next to a smoker I have to move away as it makes me feel sick...and of course it is only the residual smell that I can smell.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Makes me laugh how women like Cherly Cole and Tulisa make so much effort to look good - but stink like an old Ashtray.
I get presents off an heavy smoker that go straight in the bin.0 -
This is an annoying subject for me as i recently had a buyer moaning that an item i sent smelt of smoke so badly that it overpowered their kitchen and had to put it straight in the wash!
Somewhat shocked as nobody smokes in or out of my house we are all non smokers i don't even have anyone in my house that does smoke.
I also notice smoke straight away as my parents used to smoke and i can't stand it.
The buyer didn't believe me and is still threatening bad feedback!!
Have had to blame the grey sacks as no other explanation and offer a refund on return.
Reminder to anyone buying sacks avoid the grey ones.0 -
I shared a room in a hotel with someone that only smoked outside. The smell is in everything. Smokers don't seem to smell it like non smokers. She seriously should not write non smoking home. She is definitely gonna get bad feedback if she hasn't already.0

Just backing you up here, bin liners stink very similar to smoke so probably is the sack that made buyer think you had been smoking near her purchase.0 -
Yep, its the sacks. Have had to change my packaging as they do transfer the stink
