hi guys......

recently moved to a new property with pre-pay meters & the costs seem rather high compared with what i'm used to paying. £20 a week barely covers my gas & electric. my question is, can i change suppliers or am i stuck? gas is supplied by eon. thanks in advance, roy.

Hi Roy, cost of fuel has just gone up again.
You do not say how big the flat is or if it is just you?

We are now starting to pay about £20 a week with CH on.

Changing suppliers would depend on your tenancy rules I would think.

20 pounds a week seems quite reasonable for some properties.
Anything from 5, to 100 could be quite possible - properties vary a _LOT_.

Work out your actual usage in kWh.
See if there are alternatives that are cheaper on the switching sites.
uswitch.com is one, but there are many.

PPM's cost the same as the supplier's Standard tariff.
Are you using your own key? If you use that of the previous tenant, then you may be paying their debt.
You can use whichever supplier you wish, as it's your account.

    Hi Roy

You can apply to switch supplier at any time. We won't try to stop you unless you've an outstanding debt with us - highly unlikely as you've just moved in and have a prepay gas meter.

Did you talk to us when you moved in? As macman says, if the meter's not been reset with your details, you could be paying for any debt the previous tenant might have had.

Give our prepay guys a call if this is the case. We can soon sort this.
