laptop adapters

Are 'official' brand laptop chargers better than generic ones, which never seem to last, or have I just had bad luck?

Depends how you treat them. An "official" one may take a bit more abuse than a generic one, but they'll all die eventually if you, for example, constantly wind the cord up tightly in the same direction, putting a twist in it.

One of the first things I do is buy another power supply and I always buy cheaper generic ones. My experience is that they are no worse than the official ones.

I''ve Breen using a £20 power supply on my MacBook for 2 years without any problems.

They are all much of a mutchness IME.

I've replaced several expired OEM chargers with far cheaper non-branded supplies on several laptops over the years and they have all performed flawlessly. :)
