Had this for free for 6 months and wondering whether to renew?

I must admit I am wondering what is covered by my home insurance anyway? (I've got contents, buildings both with accidental damage). I've also got separate cover for heating.

Anyone got any experience with this?

Are there better/cheaper alternatives to AA?

Check you home insurance to see if you have any cover for this. Some include home emergency with a small claims limit as part of the policy (which carries an excess and will effect no claims).

Most home insurers also offer a seperate home emergency cover that you pay extra for. They can cover the heating system although there may be restrictions on the age of the boiler and claims are usually limited to a certain amount.

If you don't have home emergency on your household policy, you will still be covered for damage caused eg by a burst pipe but not for the cost of fixing the pipework.

I would be inclined to contact your home insurance provider to see what they can offer but check that you are comfortable with the cover, claims limits, exclusions, etc.
