Get on the phone to them, ask to progress it as a complaint. Without being more assertive it's obvious nothing is going to happen.
  • I've just been through similar (although with Clydesdale) - got an agreement in principle at beginning of September, had offer accepted mid September, full application and all requested docs sent end of September and finally got my offer yesterday! It took lots of chasing from both myself and my solicitor and the sellers solicitors were threatening to pull out but fingers crossed I have now done the hard bit! Hope you get your offer soon. X

We made our mortgage application online with First Direct immediately after having our offer accepted on the 5th of the month. Phone call made a couple of days after to talk through the application and required documentation (P60s and 3 months' bank statements) sent the same week. Valuation carried out following week. Formal mortgage offer received 21st of the month. Very quick all in.
  • I aaplied through Abbey for Intermediaries (via FA) and am also still waiting nearly 5 weeks later - every other day they ask for more documentation which obviously takes time to get together, pass on to FA and then pass on to them (although I have always sent same day). If they has asked for everything at once I would have been able to submit it all quickly. It is soooo frustrating - especially since they could do all this then say no! My agent is now ringing me every few days chasing up progress. I am supposed to be completing next Friday as I wanted to get the keys and get workmen in to start work whilst I go away for 6 weeks. If the delays continue I can't complete until I return which may lose me the house. I hate bankers

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It seems that as I thought this isn't too unusual - the agents are just trying to keep an eye on thnigs, I suppose.

I reluctantly hassled YBS a bit - they had told me they were very busy, so I didn't like to - but it worked and we now have a valuation booked for Monday. That's day 42, six weeks since the offer was accepted, and well within the guide timescales I've read about.

Don't be reluctant - you're the customer, you're paying for a service. If they're being that crap you should be on the phone to them every day.

But they're so polite and apologetic! :(

I'm not trying to be rude here but you need to be more assertive. If you're not getting a good enough service, don't be scared to progress it to a complaint/manager. You're just being fobbed off at the moment.

Did you apply in a branch? I really can't see that this is the same company I used! When I sent documents they called me at 9am the day after i posted it when there was an issue.

    That's just how I am.

I'm happy with the service I've received so far and I don't feel that I've been fobbed off. As I mentioned, I got through to them today and my case handler made a special effort to go over my case there and then, approved it and booked the valuation for Monday. I think they're doing fine, really.

I'd really have no grounds to complain, it seems quite unreasonable.
