where to find a private landlord??

Hello all

Im just considering some options

I might need to move (personal reasons)

I need to find a private landlord
I dont think that ill pass a credit check for a agent.
defaults on loans and credit cards when I was younger plus im not on the electrol roll and I dont have my own bank account.

The loans ect were over 6 years ago

any body know the best place to look to find a private land lord.

Ive got rent statements and council tax statements showing that I pay my rent (housing association) on the same day each month for the last 5 years
and im employed full time but I might be changing my job for a better payed position in the new year.

any help

thanks in advance

Gumtree, adverts in local shop windows, local paper... usual places really. You can put a wanted ad up in all these places too.

Some private LLs will still do a credit check on you, just to warn you.

You know, if you are honest with LLs or LAs about your poor credit history and offer a few months rent up front (if you can afford it) it would make hunting for a new place much easier for you

Maybe open a basic bank account and onto the electoral roll (legal requirement)? Think carefully about giving up a housing association place, you won't get that security in private rental market. Could you swap?

  • As a landlord myself, I advertise on Gumtree so that would be the best place to start.

Offer minimum 6 weeks rent up-front minimum and you should be OK as long as you can provide sound references and proof of earnings.

Open a basic bank account, register yourself on the electoral roll at you current address and get a credit report for yourself to see how it looks.

I don't understand how you're not on the electoral roll. Surely you'll be on it for a previous address if not your current one?
  • cant swap as my partner will still be there

    thanks for the advice

Ask your HA if they have a list of private LLs, as well. Some of them do.
