they didn't suggest anything else when I spoke to them

    Hi Littleangel,

If you switched to EDF by talking to them on the phone then you wouldn't have been offered the good tariffs some of us are talking about as they were online only tariffs that could only be found through some of the switching websites at the time. That's great that you can save 20% though by switching now - good luck with it! :D

    Regards

    Hi Cardew,

I completely agree with them for any customers on the regular EDF tariffs and think it's ridiculous they've not reduced their prices in line with most other companies but the online tariff that I, and quite a few others who have posted on this thread, are on were never increased all that much and are actually cheaper than anything we could switch to at the moment so it would be silly to switch while that remains the case. I'm keeping a close eye on it though and if at any point others do reduce their prices below what the EDF tariff is it'll be back on the switching merry-go-round for me too! :D

    Agree absolutely.

Some of the early EDF on-line tariffs are an absolute bargain. Jem16 and I have had a long exchange on this subject - her account was with London Electricity which passed to EDF.

I could never understand why EDF did not combine all the various versions of their on-line tariffs into the same pricing structure.

As has been discussed elsewhere, I wonder how many EDF customers have changed to a more expensive tariff because the comparison sites don't recognise their particular on-line tariff and 'assume' that they are on a later(and more expensive version)

    Hi Cardew,

Yes I'm sure I remember talking to both of you about it before as well - my account was also with London Energy but they were owned by EDF anyway so it wasn't a big change when they rebranded London Energy and Seeboard.
I could never understand why EDF did not combine all the various versions of their on-line tariffs into the same pricing structure.

I could never understand this either - one of my best friends who lives a couple of streets away from me has a slightly different tariff to me with them because she opened her account a couple of weeks before me! It's crazy. I'm not complaining that they've let them sit without raising them for so long though - I sometimes wonder if they've forgotton about them!

Yes I wonder the same - it's a real shame if many people have done this but I suspect there'll be quite a few of them. I'm pretty careful to always check the actual tariff prices and not take much notice of what they say I can save. I always calculate it myself and thus far nothing has come close to what I'm on. The comparison sites are very misleading for anyone on these tariffs and if someone wasn't quite so thorough they could easily end up switching and paying more. Although the comparison sites are really helpful in general I always tell people to be very cautious and do their own sums!

I wonder too how many people have wrongly switched, I know for my tariff (V1) it hasn't had the right pricing for at least 9 months. I joined to SWEB which was the same pricing at London Energy.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

    Hi Bex,

I'd say there's been quite a number of people fooled into switching by this to be honest as both Energyhelpline and Uswitch do not list the online tariffs I am on and I would think many others are on too. If people simply press "online" for their tariff thinking that's got the right pricing but don't check the figures they could easily think they should switch and there's no way to get back on these tariffs if you leave them since they're no longer available to new customers and haven't been for some time now.

Of course I'm sure this could end up working the other way for those of us on these tariffs - I don't expect EDF to start reducing them so if gas prices continue to fall elsewhere I'm sure there will come a time that they end up being less competitive but I'll just be keeping an eye on it and if that happens it'll be switching time again!

    Regards

I did wonder what was going on when EDF were named and shamed by the regulator . I did wonder at the time if any consideration was made as to how high prices had been raised by each supplier previously before piping on about EDF not reducing their prices as I would not expect a supplier that had kept the price rises lower than their competitors having to reduce their prices as quickly. I seem to remember that EDFs rises were lower but please correct me if I am wrong on this. I do base this on the experience on being on their V1 tarriff.

I am also on the V1 online only via comparison sites tariff, and you are correct.

I would be a considerable sum worse off, if I was to switch away.

I too had wondered why tariff 'online v2' which I switched to in May '06, never appeared as an option on any of the comparison sites, fortunately even when I was selecting the wrong tariff I was never being shown a saving with any other provider, therefore I guess I must be quids in staying with EDF on this particular tariff.
