Changing Locks

Hi

We are soon to move into our new house and wanted advice on the locks!

Is it standard practice for a new owner to change the locks and if so, how much do they cost approx. Also, can they be fitted by someone with minimal DIY skills.

How much would a locksmith charge to change a yale lock on from and back door??

Thanks

The thread refers to cylinder locks and not Yale locks.

You will not need to change the actual lock, but just replace the barrel and they can be bought seperately at any DIY store and are standard size.

Most people with minimal skills could change one I would have thought, a locksmith would charge you a call out fee plus parts and labour which would prove expensive.

To save yourself money you could swap the cylinder with someone else
I swapped the cylinder with my mates one (as we both had two sets of keys).

My brother done a 2 way swap also because him and my mum moved houses at the same time!

But they are cheap so its not a big issue (less than £10 with two keys)
