HDMI switcher issues.

I have just bought a switcher but cant get it to work, I must be doing something wrong.

Ive put the plug into my HDMI slot in the back of my tv. I have the inserted the DVD HDMI cable into the switcher along with the PS3 cable too. So I have 2 devices plugged into the switcher and the switcher plugged into the tv.

Nothing is happening. There are 3 lights on the switcher and a little button which I presume you use to choose which devise you want to use. The lights do not light up however. When I select the input source on my tv to the HDMI option my tv is just blank. The switcher does nothing. There is no on off switch on the switcher to turn on or off.

Any help here please.

Apologies for asking the dumb questions... but:

    1) Do the devices (dvd and ps3)work fine without the switcher?
    2) Were the devices turned on when you said the lights on the switcher weren't on?
    3) Is there any kind of plastic protection material inside any of the ports on the switcher? I know this sounds ridiculous, but an old cable aI bought once had protective wrapping that was practically invisible to the naked eye!
    4) Have you tried moving/pressing the button to switch between the 3 ports? It might be set to the one port you're not using.
    5) Try using all 3 ports, and just one port at a time incase you've got a duff port/cable.

    some switchers can be funny
I have one that works fine with the PS3 & Sky box
however the 360 causes it issues with switching

    I would break it down
try only one thing connected to one port
    see if it works
if it does, move that cable to the next port
    try it,then try the button
repeat and try an different component to test
