Hi,
I pay for both gas and electricity, standard tariff, separate bills paid quarterly with my debit card.
I was already with Eon for electric, but switched to them for gas October time last year. I was told that even though I wasn't on duel fuel, because I now had both with them I would be put on the rewards scheme, where after a year, I would get £50 off the electricity, and £10 off the gas. I'd never heard of this so I looked on their site, and found it.
I was told I would get though, £13+ there and then, off the electricity, and then the rest when the year was up.
Both bills were due this November, and I wondered when I would get the rewards, so I rang and asked. Firstly, the person had never heard of the rewards thing and had to go and ask someone about it. Then, she said I wasn't due it yet, that I would get it on my next bills due next February. So, that was sorted.
I gave my reading in for electric on 31st October. Got the bill, and paid it on 5th November. There was no reward discount so I knew the person was right.
Well, I put my reading in for the gas on 1st November, but when I got the bill they had knocked the £10 off for the reward discount. I then couldn't understand why I'd received it for that but not the elecricity, so I rang up. The person at first said he didn't know either, but then said he thought it might be I got it for the gas because I'd put my reading in on the 1st Nov, but hadn't with the electric as I put the reading in one day out, on 31st Oct, so he told me to read the meter again, then he would get another bill sent out, and hopefully the £37 remaining discount would be on there.
I was confused. I didn't know how that would work. It didn't sit right with me, and then I suddenly realized that perhaps he didn't know I'd already paid the bill, so I rang again. This happened on 9th Nov.
This time, I was told that it was wrong, and that I wouldn't get the discount untill Feb. He didn't seem to know why I was asked to give the reading in. I said that I hope that reading will be disregarded then, as I didn't want another bill being generated. He assured me it would be.
Well, it wasn't, and I got a bill for £13.53 this morning! I rang again, and the person didn't know anything about the rewards scheme, and had to go away and ask someone. He came back, and said 'your next bill will say 'zero zero'. I said 'I ignore this bill then?' He said 'Yes.'
Now, I don't trust what they say anymore. They've not only told me different things, but told me wrong. So, I'm worried now, that the bill 'won't' be ignored and I'll start getting threatening letters. If that happens, it could go on my credit file.
I don't know whether to pay it now, or leave it and hope I don't hear anything else. All this fuss and mess and I haven't caused any of it!
Sorry for long post,
Thanks.

I'm not an E.On rep, but if you have received a bill from them then you should either pay it or put it into formal dispute.
A formal dispute will hold off collection action for a limited time, hopefully enough for them to formally address your dispute.
Do not accept an 'it'll be alright on the night' answer. If the bill is no longer to be collected, the supplier should issue you a revised bill showing the new outstanding amount (hopefully zero)

Hiya Candy53,
Sounds like there's a bit of confusion here, so I'm really sorry about that.
The tariff you're on sounds like the E.ON energy reward plan.
The credits are applied to your energy account following your first bill after the (12 month) anniversary. It should be as simple as that.
I'm also not sure why you were asked to give a reading in, if a bill has been produced then this will need to be paid otherwise follow up will start.
I understand you have been told to ignore this bill and I really want to check this is the right thing to do.
I will be more than happy to have a look through your account and see what's going on and also pass on a bit of feedback about the poor advice it sounds like you have had.

Thanks for replying Wywth. I'll see if Helena finds anything out, but I think you're right, it might be best paying it, although I shouldn't have to.

The way I read it, I don't think Wywth is suggesting you pay a bill that you feel is incorrect, hence the alternative given to put it into formal dispute if you believe it to be inappropriate.
I think all Wywth was trying to say was don't " leave it and hope [you] don't hear anything else"
