Well I've now scrubbed the inside with bicarb which does seem to have made quite a difference, and given a good spray with febreze. Actually the nubuck cleaner does seem to have worked more than i originally thought so think i'll give it another go tomorrow and hopefully they'll be (almost!) good as new!
Thanks again for all your advice.

I washed my ecco sandals the same as these in the washing machine and I have the same merrell as those too - the eccos were fine after the washing machine and I will be putting my smelly merrells in too - I put a couple of drops of tea tree oil in the machine with the detergent too! Its nice and you can sponge the insole with tea tree diluted to disinfect them!
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

Sorry to keep banging on about these blinking sandals, just one more problem. The bicarb has worked wonders on the insoles (sprinkled on and scrubbed with toothbrush and water) but I also used it on patches of the nubuck that were stained, and now it has left much worse dark stains which I'm really annoyed about because they were looking quite good before! I've scrubbed again with the suede cleaner a couple of times but it's not doing anything, I think i've really done it now! Any bright ideas? I'm wondering if it's possible to dye the nubuck but perhaps that's taking things a bit too far... shame because they really are looking good (apart from big dark stains that is!)

Have you tried giving all of the nubuck a scrub with the bicarb rather than just the patches? That might work but failing that suede dye works on nubuck.

At this rate it might have been cheaper to have bought new sandals

Well so far i've only spent £2.50 on the cleaner and as they're £60 a pair I've got a way to go yet!! Think I'll look into the dye, thanks for all your suggestions I really appreciate it.
  • After cleaning the footbed of your sandals, if the stains are still visible try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser......good as new! No kidding!
