how to clean last years sandals

hi, i dragged out last years sandals and although there is nothing really wrong with them they could really do with a good clean and something to make them smell more fragrant!
i've just scrubbed them with soapy water in the past,
the outside surface is fine, its the bit your foot sits on that is a bit dubious!
have got no choice but to buy new for the kids-they keep growing-very inconvenient!!! but cant really justify buying new for myself, if these can be given a new lease of life
any ideas?

hiya:D i have very stinky feet!
not sure if the footbeds will ever look different, but for odour, sprinkle bicarb all over them and leave overnight before wiping off....smell gone!
a few drops of tea tree oil can also be added for anti-bac, but i know there's been worries re overuse of this.:o

Hi, I often put leather trainers and ballet-style pumps through the washing machine, especially in the summer when I don't wear socks. So long as you choose the coolest, low spin programme there shouldn't be a problem, then peg them on the line. I did put some trainers through on a hot wash once, they where as clean as you like but the soles banana'd.. I figure if I can't wear them 'cos they hum somewhat it's worth the risk, nothing lost! One debt v 100 days Part 14 £400/£400

hi are they like a cork kinda base?
mine are an i put them in the machine came up great0 -
Put them in a carrier bag, knot the end and leave overnight in the freezer. The cold temperature kills off the bugs that cause the niff!
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Like the freezer idea, but think I might turn my food rancid
Mine are suede mules so am going to try putting in the washine mahine. They really hum as the suede just absorbs the odour.:hello:0 -
thanks everyone, will try the bicarb idea first, then if that doesnt work they'll be going in the freezer!!- never would've thought of putting them in there.
most of my friends look at me as if i'm mad when i say some of the OS money saving things i do, so i dont think i'll mention putting my shoes in the freezer, they'll get me carted away!!!Word for 2023 …PROACTIVE 🧡 2023 -decluttering campaign 1020/2023 ⭐️⭐️Saving towards paying off car in November…£720/£1500 🚗0 -

I've got a few pairs of stinky shoes (not all mine!) that could really do with going in the washing machine, but I'm really worried about damaging it, is it safe to put shoes in the machine?0 -

I know it's a bit wastefull but I only put one pair at a time in and they do clank around as you would expect! Maybe try it with a bath towel in there just to 'cushion' it?One debt v 100 days Part 14 £400/£400

I have this afternoon washed 3 pairs of stinky Birkenstocks in my machine on the Woollens cycle, and they seem to have come out fine. I am leaving them outside to dry off in the breeze. Thanks for the tipOfficial DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

That's the great thing about Crocs! You can wash them in the machine no problem, and they come out virtually dry.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
