New Oven -Temperature not right

Gas 4 on my cooker = actually gas 3
Gas 6 on my cooker = actually gas 5
Gas 9 on my cooker = actually gas ? the thermometer went up to 280C (gas 9 should=240C)
We are going back to the shop today as i've noticed the gas markings are on a bit that actually moves 3/4 of a gas mark, so I don't think this is good enough, but this doesn't explain the difference in gas 9.
The cooker was £274.99 so it's not a top of the range cooker, but we couldn't afford this BUT I do loads of cooking and we told the chap this when we bought it.
Is there anyone on here that can give me any advice as I understand cooker temperatures do vary but how much difference should I realistically expect?
Thanks for any advice

Does seem a bit odd with the temperature at 9, but that could just be the maximum, so it's deliberately set high. Does it go up to 10?
I would suspect it's more a case of just figuring out which shelves and settings will give you the results you used to just know how to get with your old oven.
It clearly is regulating the temperature, so unless the specifications state a temperature range at a particular setting, I doubt you'll have much luck convincing the supplier you've got a dud one.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. That's what I thought. I think we can only argue about the dial which seems move 3/4 of a gas mark either way without the temperature changing.
I am really fed up as I do such a lot of baking and I have just recently started writing about recipes I've created.
I'm one fed up woman!0 -
is it a free standing cooker or a built in oven ? the temp is controlled by the thermomitor which is normally at the top of the oven therefore the temp in the other parts of the oven will be differentI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
I tried the oven again the next day at different temperatures and each time the temperatures were different, not even by a small amount sometimes thay were different by 2 or even 3 gas marks from those recorded the night before.
We did go back to the shop and after a little arguement, they have agreed to change the cooker for us, though they can't fit the new one for a week even theough they managed to fit this one in 24 hours....funny that isn't it!
Anyway, at least they are changing it, though it's hard work trying to feed a dairy intolerant child without an oven!0 -
Good result, even if you do have to wait a week.
