Put change / money to go to bank account into money bag Done - have no idea how I'm actually going to get it into my account tho' as no branches nearby to pay it in :( Might have to wait until there's a fair bit & do in one go.....

Do you have a best friend/relative you trust? If so you might consider this:

    1st idea (slightly risky):
    Give them the money.
They pay it into their account.
They pay the money into your account by a free Faster Payment. They would need your sortcode and account number. The funds can usually be transferred from their account to yours within two hours through Telephone/Branch or Internet Banking.

Nearly all UK accounts accept these transfers. To find out if your account does go to this banking industry site and type in your sortcode.

    2nd idea:
Call the bank you would like to pay money into. Ask them if they have a "reciprocal arrangement" with any other bank that would allow you to pay in the money to another bank and have it arrive in your account.

eg. RBS customers can pay in cash to their RBS account by going to a NatWest branch with a paying-in book (also called a bank giro credit book). This is because the RBS and NatWest are both part of the same company.

    3rd idea:
Pay in the money to your account at a Post Office. This can only be done if your account is with one of the banks in this list.

    4th idea (slightly risky):
Give your trusted person them the money and ask them to pay it into your account when they go near your branch.

    5th idea:
Change bank. Only you would know whether this would be a good idea.

    6th idea (takes ages):
Give the money to someone you trust.
    They write you a cheque.
You post the cheque to your bank.

That's unusual. Are you sure that the bank doesn't have online access and you just haven't signed up for it yet? (Sorry if that sounds cheeky!)

I did ask again the last time I was in & was told I couldn't get online access

It's a very basic cardcash account (and I've had it ages & can't even see it in their list of accounts now!). The card doesn't even have a chip so it's cash withdrawals at the ATM only!

99% of the time it's fine as I do only use it for sticking the odd £50 or so in for emergencies, paying in cheques or bagged coins.

I've never bothered asking if it can be upgraded as I don't make regular payments into it - although if I could get access online, there's no reason I couldn't do this.

Will add to tomorrow's list to phone them & see if it can be upgraded (without having to pay my salary into it!). :T

If I get really stuck, I can ask my Mum to do it for me ....:)

2nd idea ..... this is what really annoys me.

When I lived in England, I could pay in money at any PO branch :)but because I live in Scotland, I can't anymore.:(

Seems totally the wrong way around to me - because it's an English bank there's branches in most towns anyway ...... but there's hardly any in Scotland which is why it would surely make sense that you could pay in at PO branches up here! grrrrrr

  • Thanks guys, I'm still buzzing. :D Was such a relief. Now I know if he ever leaves this job it will be because he's getting a better one/promotion and not that his contract has come to an end. Also great because he gets better benefits, lots of training and can start paying into his pension again.
  • really happy for you La E xx
