Wednesday 14th Nov - What small DFW things are you doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:
Morning world :hello:
I hope we are all well and ready to brave the world today.
I'll be up to a few bits and bobs to keep me on track:
Brekkie at home
Take packed lunch to work
Shift some money around
Keep a beady eye out for a job I know is being advertised soon
Post bday card with 2nd class stamp
Check Euromillions ticket
Keep my eye out for any cash on the ground after yesterday's £10 note find
Use said £10 note to buy bus pass :T
Look up realistic price/decide effort of building our own bed - don't know if this is a mental idea... http://www.myfamilylovesit.com/blog/index.php/2008/01/21/how-to-build-a-platform-bed/
Prepare for tomorrow's yoga class - teaching 4 peeps
Catch up with y'all later today.
Big virtual hugs to everyone.

Hi La E thanks for the kick off! Have looked at your bed idea. No I don't think its mental at all, you just need to get all the bits and then set aside a day to do it! (its definitely no mental-er than me and the lovely Mr DNM renovating a whole house!) Can I give you a tip? Don't go to B&Q at all, go to tool station for any tools/screws & fixings and order the wood from a builders merchants, will be cheaper and they will deliver. Also can you put a post out on freecycle if anyone has got some left over bits of wood?
Ok me for the day - better be quick as time is ebbing!
* checked banking and shifted some funds
* read martin's email
* all meals from stores - B/L for me as having dinner at my bff's
* pick up a couple of mags from newsletter for the freebies
* have emailed a couple of peeps off of freecycle re a chest of drawers and a ladder (really hope I get the ladder!)
* go collect extortionate jumper for my db's b'day (was £90 but I couldn't argue seeing as he is doing so much work for us...)
* call builders merchant and order plaster board - must do this today!
* go for a run after work
* post back lovefilm
* do some of the job application I have
* car checks....
I think that's all I can manage and I better get my skates on!DF as at 30/12/16

Ooh, good house renovating tips dnms. Ta love.
Plan B is a king + mattress on gumtree for cheaper than the mattress we would buy so might call today. Could then buy new mattress topper and would be good as new.
Want to get the bedroom done by crimbo and now it looks doable for nowhere near the £2k furniture we originally looked at :eek:0 -

Afternoon everyone

Thanks to La E for starting us off today
Today's mse plan is:
Breakfast/lunch/dinner from stores (Wednesday dinner always difficult because OH in very late and requires something light)
Log calories with free app. (now that I have added Pernicious onto MFP I actually feel very guilty for snaffling over my calories because she is watching!)
Charge phone in work
Little bit of overtime
Emailed letting agents about windows company not ringing (technically money saving as if LL decides on UPVC windows, the house will be warmer
)
Check online banking (cleared out until payday now on a week Friday, but loads of food in the house plus bought a bumper bag of sugar in Asda last night to do some preserving)
Read Martin's email :money:
Tried to persuade my dad to buy me a house (well, to be my landlord) but not working so far :rotfl:
Think about trying to rein in OH's spending a bit. Not sure what he is doing with his money, and he has been sneaky in the past, hiding things from me. Suspect he is buying a lot of food out but he said that I don't need to make his lunches because he is an adult and he will do it himself. Yeah... right.
Finish sewing in the ends on b-i-l's Christmas scarf
Do some tidying up around the house if I get home in a sensible time.
Hope you all have a good day

Hey DFW Jedis. I'm have way through moving house and this afternoon I've decided to award myself the rest of the day off because I'm exhausted. Today I've:
~Done a 7 hour shift at work.
~Continued to change addresses online cos that's the cheapest way. Also did driving license update online which took ages because their site wasn't working properly and they don't tell you that if you click away from the site while applying, for example, to refer to a spreadsheet your account is locked for 24 hours.
~Arranged mail re-direction but not for a whole year, just a couple of months.
~Represented a colleague at an employment hearing. We won! :jThey are returning the favour by helping us move home free of charge.
~Read Martin's email: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/latesttip/
~Work out how many new blinds and lampshades we need to buy for our new place if we re-use what we have already.
~Got free 2013 diary from truck hire company.
~Offer a bit of help on this forum.

Ahhhhh that's fabulous news:j:j:j
Now home & just catching up .....Ally glad the house move is going OK & you'll get some funds towards it soon, Headouthesand happy belated birthday
& DNMS hope you get the ladders/drawers - I really need ladders as mine aren't long enough to get up to my loft ..... stuff got shoved up there when I moved in errrr 6 years ago
- sure it could be sorted & some stuff could be sold;). Must start looking at Free*cycle again!
Re my question re being paid early - thanks for all the suggestions, unfortunately the spare account I have doesn't have online access so can't move the whole lot - but think if I pay the bills & pots accounts as usual & stick some emergency money in there (which I can withdraw in cash) - fingers crossed, it'll work better than in previous years.:)
Anyway .... now home
- it was lovely to have a change of scene for 24 hours after being in either hospital or my house for over a month now  but have to say, I'm glad to be home again (I really am a home bod & never really settle anywhere else:o - or sleep!).
It was lovely to see Maisie
she did remember me :j and we had lots & lots of cuddles ..... missing her again already
and really hoping she'll be able to come home soon!
Short list for today:
Download "to do list" app Done - need to go to site so I can work out how to actually use it
Dinner from stores (B / L @ DMs:))
Get some new sauces to try at Mr A (usually cook from scratch but struggling just now as don't have the energy so having to resort to jars etc) Done
Sort Cats Done
Thermals on ...... heating off Still working
Don't smoke!
Read weekly MSE email
Put change / money to go to bank account into money bag Done - have no idea how I'm actually going to get it into my account tho' as no branches nearby to pay it in
Might have to wait until there's a fair bit & do in one go.....
Enjoy the rest of your day everyone

That's unusual. Are you sure that the bank doesn't have online access and you just haven't signed up for it yet? (Sorry if that sounds cheeky!) Certainly all these financial institutions do:
HSBC
Lloyds TSB
First Direct
RBS/Nat West/Ulster Bank
Citibank
A&L
Barclays
Citibank
Halifax
Egg
Cahoot
IF
Nationwide
Smile
Co-operative
Post Office
Also most banks will let you move money around using their Telephone Banking services.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0
