Hi Guys,

I would like to know if there is anyone who has a similar experience. I havea 2 year old double glazed door and for some reason I cannot dead lock the doorso that it is secure i.e. lift up the handle to lock it (I can put the multi-locksin place but not turn the key to click it into place and it feels like there issomething blocking it) I am not sure what the problem is and whether it is anexpensive problem to fix. I can lock the door from the inside but not outside.

I think that at one point there must have been two keys in the lock barreland whilst the key was on the inside I must have put the key in on the outsideto try and open the door somewhat forcefully.

I personally think that the ratchets or something need to be realigned but notentirely sure. Does anyone know if it is easy to open up the lock to try andsee myself what the problem it?

Also does anyone living close to SE9 (London) want to have a look? I willpay them to fix it if they can.

Rgds,

Vincent

  • Try 'bouncing' the handle a bit as you try to lock the dor.

  • Bump.

Does anyone know how much it is and do locksmiths take a call out charge?
  • I'm assuming the firm that fitted your door are no longer in business?
The firm that did my double glazing are a local firm of 30 odd years and the 10 year guarentee from them states it includes all locks & hinges.
    Back on the trains again!

Mine was fixed by the Window Doctor ( as part of a re-sealing).

  • Chances are the door has dropped a bit in the frame which makes locking the door properly a nightmare! Our conservatory door does something very similar. Keep meaning to get someone out to look at it. Don't think it will be expensive to fix though :)
  • Hi guys.

I wanted to say thanks for the suggestions. I may as well wrote how to fixed it myself. I looked at how doors worked then thought about what may have happened and then I worked out that it may be because there were twokeya in the lock barrel in the same time and when one is in you can't open the door. Do I think some force was applied so it it forcefully opened. This may have misaligned the door mechanism as you can still lock from the inaide . I put both keys in the whole and turned both to see if I could align them again and after a few tries I managed to fix it.
