I am looking to buy either a desktop of laptop I have a few choices, it would mainly be for playing The Sims 3 here are the system requirements
FOR WINDOWS VISTA (Service Pack 1)
NVIDIA GeForce series
Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.
Please note that attempting to play the game using video hardware that isn’t listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all.
The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.

Should work on either. but you didnt mention which graphics card was in either of the above.
as for your other question would you be better off with a desktop, wrong question.
1. what do i want to do on the computer besides playing this game ?
2. do i want to be able to for instance sit in the garden on a nice day with it ? running of the battery. note: the battery times they give are pretty much fairy tales. for heavy use playing games battery time will go down quicker than for instance playing solitaire and going online.
And with windows 7 installed running aero even quicker so remember to save / autosave when playing to around 10-15min intervals if not running on mains.
With laptops expect to replace the battery every erm 2years depending on how you run it. for instance playing games on battery and letting it drain down to far will result in the battery dying quicker.
rule of thumb. Charge battery, disconnect battery, and run from mains if not going anywhere. the connect battery if you want to sit outside with the laptop, DO NOT PLUG IN THE LAPTOP VIA MAINS OUTSIDE USING THE SUPPLIED ADAPTER. says it on the charger itself.
neighbour did exactly that after i told her not to, and then she wondered by the new charger died.
5 things with desktops, 1 no battery to die, 2 better value for money.
3. Cheap for parts, 4 easier to fix, add to. 5. bigger screen makes it easier to see whats going on in the game.0 -
Desktop would be faster and easier to fix if there is any problem.
However, the desktop you choose with hd 2500.
I suggest you go for £250 zoostorm A6-3670K instead0 -
desktop is usually better for games, however the ones you have posted both use intergrated graphic chipsets, and although it will run on them, it will be in the lowest settings as the intel intergrated graphics are garbage at best when considering games (they are fine for normal usage)
if funds are low and you wish to play games on it you are usually better going for a AMD based system with a A series processor as cisco has pointed out.
anyways if you let us know a budget and what your perference is with desktop and laptop - remembering you would need a monitor keyboard and mouse for a desktop if you dont have them already and we can try and help in a bit more detailDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Before answering, I'd like to ask you, on which will you be using comfortably? Remember playing a great game can last for some hours or even days, weeks or months. Get something that you will be comfy playing with and then, think of the specs!

Good luck!0 -
