Hi just wanted to know if anybody else had suffered the same as me and my wife.
2 years ago we changed from scottish power because they kept putting the debit amounts up. gas - £50 per mth elec - £60 per mth

a representative from edf energy came round to our house and said that we should be paying no more than £25 per month for each of them.
he had gone round the house checking lights etc.

last year they informed us that they would be putting the debit amounts up electric to £70 and the gas to £42.
i have now again received a quartly summary and they have stated that we need to increase the amount we pay for the gas to £80 per month aswell as pay a bill for £230 that is outstanding even though the 3 months they have assessed us with is the highest quarter( dec-march ).

so from paying £50 per month for both at the beginning we now have to pay £150 per month.

apart from changing to another supplier is there anything i can do to stop this from happening?????

Never believe a salesman on commission.
Are you in credit or debit with EDF at the moment?
Have you checked that the meter readings are accurate?

You can always cancel the direct debit and pay the quarterly bill.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    This happens all the time.

You have essentially been 'conned' by the EDF guy; as Penrhyn states they will tell you anything to get their commission. Had you told him you were paying £25 a month he would have said £20!! Had you said £20 he would have said £15 etc.

Whilst some companies are obviously cheaper than others, there is rarely more than a few % difference in prices after they have all had their price increases or decreases.

Look for the cheapest deal on a comparison site by entering last years consumption in kWhs(not what you pay in £££ each month) and don't believe that anyone can give you a great deal that beats it.

I am in the same boat with EDF

Just had me gas increased to £65 a month and my electricity to £45 a month!

I switched because of savings offered on a price comparison site!

That is twice these sites have offered me savings which I never see and I have to up my payments to catch up less than a year later!!
