Scottish Power wont give me my credit back
I am £250 in credit with Scottish Power.
I pay £85 per month for gas and electricity on my modern 3 bed house (it's not a big house at all!)
I have been monitoring my usage very very closely for the last couple of months mid Sept/mid October my combined bill using accurate meter readings was £42 (didn't use the heating that much, only had hot water on for two hours per day for evening baths).
mid October/mid November my bill again using accurate meter readings is £52 for both gas and electricity. Been using the heating alot more this past month got the hot water on for probably 3 hours a day.
I phoned Scottish Power earlier asking if they would give me MY £250 back as I could do with it at the moment. I'd take £200 back and leave £50 on account if needs be. They basically said no they wouldn't recommend it as my direct debit would increase significantly. It seems that I am more than covering my costs by paying the £85 per month and if needs be I'd rather owe them a bit than have them sat on my money.
What should I do?

Whether moving as advised is sensible depends whether your current tariff can be bettered or equaled so be wary about that.I phoned Scottish Power earlier asking if they would give me MY £250 back as I could do with it at the moment. The Scottish Power adviser may (or may not) be right that a large rebate would result in a significantly increased direct debit. So you have that as a verbal statement, now ask by email for the detailed calculation. Scottish Power must supply that on request. Then compare.
I can't advise on the numbers unless you find out the date of your next 'annual review' and the account balance on the occasion of your last 'annual review' but my gut feeling is that if £85/month is right (or slightly high) then a £150 surplus should be more than adequate at this time of year. Hold them to their own procedure http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/support-centre/payments/direct-debit-explained.aspx0 -
Hiya, you would be better off leaving the cash well alone as it will be included in calculations of your DD.
You can take the cash and have a cheque sent, takes about 2 weeks. Then your DD will go up, also with the account cleared there will be no money in account to pay the fuel bill until next DD comes out.
If you go x3 over your DD at your review, they will sent a cheque any way.
Well done on reducing your fuel bill, it can be done with some effort.
Try to keep it up and when you have a review hopefully your rewards will be in seeing the DD reduced. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
