working my redundancy notice?

hi,
i couldn't find an answer in the old threads for this here goes.
say i'm made redundant with 7 other people, and i have worked the the same co. for 8 years.i am given 8 years redundancy pay, but the company will require me to work my notice period of 8 years.which is 8 weeks work.
which is fair enough but, during this notice period the company wants me to work for another one of their companies doing a degrading job rifleing through skips at their recycling centre where i will be exposed to numerous health hazards.
this is because they don't want me working in customers houses.i am a tradesman and have numerous qualifications.and this job is totally unsuitable.
can they legally do this? make me work for a different company doing a totally different job during my notice period?
the truth is they want us to leave off our own backs.
this is a senario which is looking very likely for me as we have seen it with other employees in the past.
thanks for looking.

Sorry to hear that you are in this situation
I don't know the answer to the question of whether they can make you work elsewhere, but whatever work they require you to do must have a risk assessment detailing all the hazards and showing how they will manage out the risks to your health - any failure to either undertake a risk assessment or to manage the risks would put them in breach of H&S legislationYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0
