If you can take the spine of the book apart it not hard to re-secure the book back again. You need to make a jig with four pieces of wood to the size of the book to stop the pages moving. Stick one section of the book in the jig and clamp it down and then drill 3 or 4 holes being careful to be as vertical as possible along the spine like a hole punch. Use bolts to go through the holes and cut off the excess with a hacksaw.

Its horribly ghetto but you are talking about butchering the book anyway - maybe your frankenmanual will provide you with a talking point with people on the commute :)
  • Thanks all, its all glued so sounds like it will be a risk, I'll have a think but may try Jaynne's method! Thanks. Otherwise the ebook reader it will be!
