  • my husband and I took a loan from First National 19 years ago and were hoodwinked the whole way... the girl who sold us the loan actually left the company 'under a cloud' a year later... she was more worried about getting her commission it seems.
    anyway
we would love to claim back the ppi we know we had - it was years before we even noticed it by chance on the agreement, and had to ask a friend to explain what it was.
we never knew it was there.
but, we are told - by cold callers - that they cannot help as its too long ago.... this is great because we no longer get calls...
we believe First National will be a pain to go up against.
can anyone give us any advice before we have a go...??
we are not scared to take them on, but are naive and dont want to be turned away for a stupid reason.
as I write this, I cant think where the paperwork is, but am prepared to tear the house apart to find it. we do know it would help,
but, should we start the ball rolling...??
and, the big question needing answered - where the heck are they now - we live in N.Ireland and they left here, so we have no address.

Your complaint is way before they were regulated so you can expect them to dismiss your complaint.
You have no access to the FOS or the FSCS, so don't worry about tearing the house apart, your complaint is already over.

Regulation started in January 2005. Your case is pre-regulation. Lenders like this tended to use brokers rather than you deal direct. If you used a broker than its game over before you start. If you went direct to lender then they should still consider your complaint. Providing they still hold documentation.

Just a little update - I have had a claim against First National with the FOS for a few years now, advised by FOS that they were looking into pursuing the underwriting insurers who were Cardiff Pinnacle. Cardiff P tried to say I was time barred but I sent FOS proof of previous correspondence stating that this was not the case. in September I received an offer direct from CP of over £10,000 which I accepted and received within a week! This was a front loaded loan taken out in 2004 and paid off early. So my advice GO FOR IT!!!!

Many thanks for you advice l also received a letter from Cardiff Pinnacle stating time barred but my adjuiticator at FOS is asked me for evidence that in 2005 l complained about amount redress when loan paid off early, the ironic thing is l complained to GE Money and have a letter from them stating as a gesture of goodwill after my complaint with regards rebate they paid me a further £2300 l dont know if this will help me. What proof did you have .
