Oil or electric heating???

Hi,
Moving into a new house to us but some years old and it does not have a central heating system,

We acknoledge it is going to cost but woundered if any one knows the cheaoer option in long and short terms,

We have considered OIL but means a complete new system and is expensive to fit.

But Electric, we have seen some new style radiators super efficient etc and some new style boilers, electric shower is easy enough too,

So obvioulsy the electric is cheaper in the short term and being an electrician installation costs are minimal just parts,

But what are long term running costs compared to Oil??

If any one know please let us know your opinions

Thanks

Electric is cheaper in the short term..

I have aso seen super efficient radiators too they sell them at most stores for about £10 each called a convector heater no electrician needed just plug them in. They are all 100% efficient. Get a good tariff and it can be just as cheap as oil when taking into account the cost of oil and the annual servicing costs including boiler replacement after 15 years If you have a big house then it's worth considering but a small house is usually better off on electricity or piped natural gas if available.

Hot water is cheap no matter what system you choose. If a good E7 tariff is chosen then the day rate isn't that much different to a flat rate and you can heat your water for about 5p/kWh at night which is less than the cost of oil.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
