Which is the best free GPS App for android. I have GPS as a task but have not been able to activate it, I have Data on the phone switched off as I don't want excessive usage.
When i try to activate GPS, it does not seem to know my location. In location services i have,
1-google location services 2-GPS satellites 3-GPS EPO assistance 4-EPO setting 5-A-GPS 6- A-GPS settings and Location Google at sea.
Not sure which one's to enable, any help most appreciated.

Phones need to have GPS and Wifi turned on as well as data to get a accurate GPS fix. If in doubt turn them all on! data usage is minimal a few kb's at most. If you turn off automatic sync on your android you won't have data problems.
What phone do you have? is it in a cover?
Their are 2 ways a phone gets GPS location.
1) via GPS satalites, this requires clear view of the sky and a good enough chip to work out your location (lots and lots of calculations are required to work out a location) In some cheaper Phones they may send the GPS data to servers on your mobile operators network to do the calculations for you (this requires data turned on) and send the app back the GPS results.
2) is where the phone uses the cell towers to triangulate it's position (it's less accurate that real GPS but it works for day to day usage (that's why android keeps asking you to turn on wifi as when they drove around the country for google street view they recorded the Wifi names in every street they passed so they can use that to help locate you ) ^_~
install this app :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5jaGFydGNyb3NzLmdwc3Rlc3QiXQ.. you can use it to test GPS signal.
Turn phone off (take out battery!)
Put battery back in and power the phone.
Wait till it's up and running
go outside and start the GPSTest application.
it will show you how many satalites it can see and how strong the signal is.Laters
