Do I need to be a leaseholder or Freeholder to take out home insurance?

My mother passed away recently. Her property will be passing to me over the next month, freehold and leasehold.
It is currently insured by Saga. The cheeky gits auto renewed her home insurance a few days before she died so the house is insured but the insurance costs about twice the quotes I can find on the web.
Can I
1.) Cancel the Saga insurance and get my own insurance before I have the leasehold / freehold officially in my name.
or should I
2.) Just wait until the leasehold / freehold is officially in my name, get my own insurance, cancel Saga.
Thanks for any advice, will make a separate thread about Saga!

First of all just because web quotes are cheaper it doesn't mean they cover your situation. Web quotes for House Insurance are for "normal circumstances" i.e. people who live in the property permanently and aren't going through probate/taking over a house from a deceased relative.
Secondly you need to contact Saga on the phone and find out what they do with houses in probate. Once you find out on the phone what they do send the appropriate document by recorded delivery so they don't lose it. Unfortuantely financial companies have a habit of losing letters that aren't sent this way.
Finally auto-renew isn't cheeky and is allowed. Some people prefer it though you can always cancel.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Auto Renew is bloody cheeky. It maybe allowed but doesn't mean it s correct.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Sorry to hear about your mum.
Is the house unoccupied now? Because that would make a material difference to the insurance anyway.
My mum's house insurance policy was terminated by her death; we arranged new insurance to cover a furnished but unoccupied house. A bit more than the usual policy....0
