If you told a letting agent you were employed when you were not, would it be possible to get away with this when they run checks on you, fake reference from your ''current employer'' for example?
I need to get my own place but am currently unemployed and looking. I can pay six months rent up front which is sufficient for a lot of landlords, but not all, and paying rent would never be an issue; I would flip burgers before I used my savings to make rent.
Thanks

Fake references is a fraud, I would avoid it as a plague. Moreover, some agents can try and contact your employer for confirmation, it happenned with me before. If you can pay up 6 mopnhs rent in advance you might be able to find something. Good luck.0 -
I'm pretty sure they would ask you for proof of income to back up your employment claim.0

Any agent or LL who take references typed on a piece of paper and handed to them by "Joe Bloggs" claiming to be their employer is a total numpty! They do not accept your reference, they ask for details of your employer and contact them direct.
Why do you "need" a new place? Get your priorities right, get the job first, then find the property!0 -
As a landlady I would not want to let a property to someone who can pay 6 months rent upfront but does not have a job, even if they said they would be looking for one.
On the other hand, I would not have a problem renting a place out to someone who had a permanet job in the burger bar (provided that his income was sufficient to meet the rent payments).0 -
Moreover, if you provide fake references and lets say you rent this propery and later it will be found that references were fake, this can be regarded as criminal act of deception where your landlord accepted you based on the fake information provided by you.0

hmm, anyways most of the contracts have 6 months break clause, if the tenats pays 6 months in advance I dont think landlords have something to lose anyway0 -
Agree it is fraud. Are you claiming housing benefit? If so they will find out during the tenancy if not during the referencing. Just get a private let through the small ads instead of an agency.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

If you'd really rather flip burgers before you used your savings to make rent why aren't you flipping burgers now?0
