Concerned about Parking Invoice

  • Thank you for the detailed help.

It does seem odd how they can claim for losses for a free car park.

Do the circumstances of the parking have any affect? For example, I did not park in a bay, I parked at the side of the road. Does this make my case any less steady than one who simply overstayed a time limit?

You're overanalysing this. Forget the minutiae of how/where you parked. Their ticket has no merit. It is bogus. It is not enforceable. Just forget it.

No affect at all - you could have parked upside down in a Chieftain tank with a bevvy of naked Premiership footballs players dancing round it and it would be equally unenforceable.

Now forget about them and ignore them.

    What case?

You are making the biggest and most common mistake that is made here - namely taking these scammers seriously!

If the way you parked caused the landowner financial loss, then yes, it makes a difference. If it caused them no additional loss at all, then no, it makes no difference.

They did not claim for losses. What they did was to give you a spurious invoice based on a supposed contract, in the hope that you would mistake it for something that had the force of law behind it. Unfortunately, quite a percentage of people who receive these spurious bits of paper do seem to think that they should pay them.
A friend of mine recently paid up, in spite of me forewarning her about the scam. When I asked her why, she said "well, it all looked so official".
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Where the VCS rep was advised to pack their toothbrush if they ever came before that court again! :D

The bit where you can tell it is all going pear-shaped is where they are outlining their "losses" and the Judge says "What's that got to do with this Gentleman's parking?"

And then it all goes downhill from there... :rotfl:
