Returning an item to B&Q

Hello,

Would someone be able to advise me on my query please?

I purchased a big (56cm) lamp shade from B&Q last weekend. When I got home, I unwrapped it and placed it onto my floor lamp only to find that the hole that holds the shade on the fitting part (the metal bit where you turn the lamp on/off - and sorry for the explanation!) does not fit.

The hole is too large and slips past the fitting that it is suppose to sit on and goes right down to where the body of the lamp begins - therefore the shade is balancing on the lamp!

I have the reciept and part of the wrapping (where the shade description is and bar code is stuck onto).

Would anyone know if I am entitled to a full refund? Also, as naive as I sound - do the lamp shade fittings (I mean the hole in which is fitted and held onto your lamps) come in different sizes?

many thanks
Angels

You will need all of the packaging and to repackage the item yourself to fully ensure you will get a refund. The product isn't faulty it's just the wrong size fitting. They will want the product back in a saleable condition I'm guessing.
  • I think you bought the shade without the other bit it's supposed to sit on:

Shades usually have an adapter on them to help them fit. Last shade I bought the adapter was missing - I called at the store, explained and they gave me the adapter. Assistant says this is a common occurence. It is a small piece of plastic which sits inside the main fitting at the top of the shade.

    Hi,

Thanks for your replies. I only have half the packaging mainly due to the cellophane being wrapped around the shade like a bandage so I needed to cut it and it went into recycling.

Maninthestreet - the shade has one of those type of things already fitted inside it. The ring to which the metal part that holds the actual bulb is too big and doesn't sit in place unless the ring is actually sitting on my lamp!

I will have to see what they say when I take it back on the weekend. I remember when I picked this up that there was a shade that wasn't wrapped so I wonder if someone had returned that too!

    Many thanks

And at £1.22 with free p&p... hardly worth getting up to go to B&Q, is it OP?

Check there isn't one on your old lampshade you can use, if it hasn't been thrown out already.

I've generally found B&Q pretty good about refunding returned items, tradesmen seem to bring bits and pieces back frequently and they don't mind.
  • I'm glad I was able to shed some light on the OP's problem.
