New boiler - installer gone awol

Hi Guys,
I recently had a new boiler installed at my house. It was done by an old mate of mine, through his company, and he is gas safe registered.
All went really well - he seemed to do a good job, was very tidy and all seemed well. He told me a gas safe certificate would be sent in the post in a few days and so I paid him and asked for a receipt, which he said he'd sort out.
However, after a couple of days I realised the thermostat wasn't working properly - I set it at 5 degrees and yet the boiler was still firing up. I phoned him up and he promised to come and have a look at it the next day.
He didn't turn up and I have been unable to contact him since. Initially his phone was off, so I emailed him and asked around mutual friends. Then when his phone did ring I left messages on his answerphone and text messages all to no avail. He is going through a divorce, so as a last resort I even knocked on his (soon to be) ex wives door and asked her to pass on a message/note.
To cut a long story short he seems to have disappeared (his wife said he is unwell) and I don't know what I can do about getting the repair done or more importantly getting a gas safe certificate and receipt.
Money is in pretty short supply after having the work done, so I don't really want to pay anyone else - is there anything I can do rectify the situation?
Thanks in advance

When you say "through his company, and he is gas safe registered"
Did he do it as the "company" or himself?
What I mean is, is he self employed or employed by someone else?
If he's self employed then no problem. If he's employed by someone else then his Gas Safe registration may be with them not him. Thats an illegal installation.
As for the stat he may have incorrectly wired the stat up so that its permanently on. If you have any other mates who are electrically qualified they should be able to sort that for a pint?
You won't get a cert unless he registers it with Gas Safe or you pay someone else to sign it off (only a fool would do that) and you pay them again.
You can check with Gas Safe to see if its been registered but also check with the manufacturer to see if the warranty has been registered?0 -
Thanks for your reply. I meant he has his own company and is therefore self employed. I will check with gas safe and also valiant to ensure it is registered. He did fill in the benchmark commissioning check list so fingers crossed it is.
Is it normal for the gas safe certificate to be posted at a later date?0 -
It's certainly normal for the Gas Safe certificate to be posted. It's sent out by Gas Safe once the installation has been registered with them.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
