Small plastering job

I had a quote last night from a plasterer to plaster/skim a chimney breast wall. Basically I have taken away a fire and had it bricked up, the wall itself is 4.4ft x 7ft high and it's 2 sides are just over 1ft x 7ft high, the quote was£120 but I have a wooden board on one side for access to pipes which is no longer required so he said to replace the board with paperboard so he could skim it would be £150. My mother in law had her whole room skimmed including a bay window and 2 alcoves done for£200. I'm not sure if the quote is fair, if it is I'm happy to pay it. I have another plasterer coming for a quote later. Any thoughts?

I ve just had a lot of plastering done, and still got some more to have done....

I think your quote is probably about right, based on the fact that although its a fairly small area the plasterer will still be there for half a day and need to cover his travel expenses etc....but he may also not be able to tie it into another job that day so you may be being charged a full days work

I think if your mum paid £200 she had a very good deal...and perhaps my only answer would be if his work was good then approach him for a quote and whilst youre at it could you get me his number too!!!!

We had our whole house plastered a few months back and it was a 9 day job and we kind of ball parked it that every surface averaged out at £75 so a typical room with ceiling was about £375...we then called him back to do a half day on a bit of rendering type plastering to match in 2 bricked up doorways and he charged £90

  • Thanx for that, I think you're right I ought to just get it done, I'm sick of looking at a bare wall! Will see what tonight's quote is and make a decision. Thanx for taking the time to reply.
