Hi all,
I hope you can help.
I am looking to insure the following of my gadgets.
I am going abroad and i also want to cover these items in th eUK as i carry them with me a lot. I am worried if i lose my bag or they get stolen etc.
Reading online there are so many companies and clauses i just have no idea now.
Can anyone suggest a company they use and if they have had to claim how easy was the process etc.
Thanks very much.
I am currently looking at helpucover gadget insurance ( anyone used them)
Any help and advice would be great.
Many Thanks,
Veilside.

Take out a home contents policy and add them to that. Or will it be an extended trip?
Clauses to watch out for are the items are not left unattended... Sticking your bag under a seat or table where you cannot see it could be unattended.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks for your reply.
I live at my parents address. They own the house etc.
Can i still take out my own home contents policy?0 -
Are they able to add your items to their policy? It is likely that it will cost extra but if you pay the additional premium then it won't make any difference to you parents. Worth a phone call and conversation with the insurer at least, just to find out if it's possible.0

Great idea but Unfortunately not.
I will have to do this totally seperately.0 -
Does you current account have any options for this?
We bank with the Co-Op and can have additional travel insurance and gadget insurance etc added on.0 -
just checked with Halifax and Lloyds TSB - they don't offer it0

Hey Guys,
First and foremost thank you for your information. I found things on these forums an invaluable source of information.
I can't seem to find any information about the HelpUCover Gadget insurance reviews. I'm thinking that no news might be good news but I really want to know if anyone has any experience with these guys, good or bad, before I commit to getting insurance with them?
Please let me know. I'd be very grateful. I am looking to insure an iPhone 4 and a MacBook Pro
Thanks :money:0 -
As already stated, with the exception of mechanical/ electrical breakdown by far the best cover is via your home insurance which will be on a new for old basis unlike the vast majority of "gadget" policies
Looking at help u cover, they have a cap of #1,500 per item and per claim so if a bag with the macbook and iphone is stolen then your most likely going to breach that limit.
You only have 24 hours to report it to the police, may be challenge on a lost item given not all police are interested in lost property. Likewise there must be signs of forced entry for anything other than theft from the person.
If your friends drops your phone or macbook, no cover.
It is not new for old cover, you cannot have cover for items over 3 years old at inception.
You can only make 2 claim per year0
