Anyone know a site for Builder problems

Anyone know a site for Builder problems

I need advice about builder and electrician problems anyone know any good site or forum in UK.

while I was ill in hospital a family member hired a builder and electrician on my behalf to do work. He had me sign checks to pay in full up front.

Well the electrician Pocketed the money did a very poor first fit then despite phone calls never came back leaving me over £6000 out of pocket. I have only mobile number.

Informed police who say it is a civil matter don't wish to know.

Tried the joke of trading standards who first tried saying nothing they could do! so I complained then they looked at it and said they had written to the Electrician telling him customers right to cancel. On enquiring more of them turns out all they did was email him! Hardly going to scare the !!!!!!.

I paid through my Bank by check and I got a copy of the cheque off them but because of Data protection act they cannot tell me his details of address ect

So now i am stumped and being frustrated in the system, can any one help?

    1) you were mad to pay up front. Sorry. Just plain mad.

    2) you sue in the civil courts - police are right, it's a civil matter.

    3) oops! just seen you don't have an address for him. So you handed over £6000 to a stranger, with no idea where he lives/works? :T

Time to hire a private detective.

 The system is not at fault, your relative broke every rule going. You NEVER pay someone up front and NEVER with just a mobile number! Of course Trading Standards just e-mailed, you didn't give them an address!

Did this electrician have any qualifications or professional memberships? Why on earth didn't they get a proper quote on headed paper with the business details on? If you can get an address for the tradesman you can take out a small claims action in the county court.

Do you have his name? Can you do a search for other people he's ripped off?

Does his house have wheels on it?
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?
