Laying Cement

We have a cement driveway outside our house. It is an L shape if viewed from the house with a gentle upward slope that turns left as you drive up it so that our car is parked outside our front window. Our problem is that the space you leave the car in is quite narrow and difficult to judge, hence we often end up with our two left wheels on the grass.

I want to extend the width of the part we park on but have never tackled this sort of job before. What do I need to consider and any tips on how to do it gratefully received. How far should I dig down, should I try to get to the level the existing drive is laid down to and then lay the concrete from there, also as it is a slight slope is there anything I need to consider?

Im wondering whether this is any particular type of easy to lay cement product I should consider using, also whats best to initally lay it on? gravel or crushed bricks, sand?
