Cancelling Credit Card

in Credit cards
My ulster bank CC recently expired and i got the replacement in the post (19.5%), No 0% on BT's, No 0% interest free periods, Basically a Crap Card.
i have recently got an Abbey Card, and no longer want to use the Ulster Bank Card, which has £0 Balance on it.
Rang the ulster Bank and they said i couldnt cancel the card as i had passed the 14 Day cancellation period stated on the letter.
what are my options? i seen somewhere in my Ulster Bank Correspondance that i can cancel this card by cutting in two and posting to UB with a letter of cancellation, but cant remenber where i seen this.
can i cancel this card? and will it harm my credit rating?
will it do any harm to leave the card alone without using it, until the next expiry date?
any advise appreciated
thanks.

You can cancel the agreement at any time regardless of the expiry date, that is the expiry date of the card not the agreement. I would ring them again and say you wish to close the account and cancel the card, they may still ask you to send the cut up card but at least you can find out where to post it to.0
