E.On query

I moved into a new build property almost 5 months ago and E.on was the pre agreed supplier of gas and electricity. We were put on their E.On Energy Plan which I believe is their standard tariff.

Shortly after moving in, I rang them to try and set up a Direct Debit, but they wouldn't allow this as they couldn't predict what our usage would be. We had to wait for the first couple of bills. Our first bill (end June-end Aug) was £12 and our second (end Aug-mid Nov) was £300.

I want to pay by monthly DD and expect in the region of £90-£100 pm. E.On's own online comparison for their products predict £46 pm which I think is completely wrong. I have tried to do an on-line comparison which recommend switching to First Utility or NPower Energy Online 2014 but I am doubtful as to how accurate a comparison I am getting.

Our house is a 5 bed, 3 storey new build so has efficient boiler/double glazing and insulation. It has taken us a while to get to grips with the heating so there has been a bit of wastage recently whilst we work out the timings etc.

Help!

Must admit, this sounds a bit odd.

Usually, we're happy to set up a Direct Debit as soon as someone moves in to a property. Even where we don't have details of usage, we'll base the monthly amount on other factors like size of property, type of heating, number of radiators etc.

This will then be reviewed after each bill so eventually the figure is based on usage.

One thing that jumps to mind, you say our online service is quoting £46/month. This sounds like a default amount for one fuel. I'm wondering if there's been a delay setting up an account for either the gas or the electric.

This can happen with new builds.

I'd certainly talk to us about this as I'm speculating a lot here. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer. I'll be happy to take a look.
