Soup question - will this be horrible?

Options
I am getting back on my diet (I AM!) so going to make a huge pot of soup today.

It will have an onion and carrot base as usual, and will mainly consist of parsnip and leek as that is what I have a lot of.

However, I have half a can of mixed beans in a slightly spicy sauce leftover. I don't want to eat them and don't want to freeze them as I'm trying to run the freezer down for Christmas, not fill it up more! I am going to blend the soup to be completely smooth, so will these beans ruin the soup? I'm thinking if it's blended you might not even know they're there? But I am not sure as I don't want to ruin a good soup...help please! :)

  • Hi,

as you say. won't notice the beans once blended, if you've any ground ginger, add to taste, for a bit of attitude.

Thanks - I would always add this to parsnip soup anyway, and a pinch of ground coriander :)
  • Should be fine! I always throw some sort of beans into soup if I'm going to blend it!

Even though they are in a 'spicy' tomato sauce? Or...should I rinse the sauce off them?

Put it all in a pot, sauce and all, blend and eat, it's good wholesome food. :D If it's horrible :p you won't make it again, if it's nice you will remember the recipe. ;)

Definitely chuck 'em in, sauce and all. You can never have too much flavour in a soup!!

Give it a go - nothing ventured, nothing gained! I would say to write down the recipe as you go along!

If it turns out to be 'a winner', it can be darned difficult to remember the quantities of everything AFTERWARDS.
  • Sounds lovely! I made cauliflower soup on Sunday with all the leaves and stalks of the fresh one I had used for dinner. It was delish!

Thanks everyone :) well it is simmering away and smells pretty good. It is a huge pot so the half tin of beans is lost in there anyway. And still only 104 calories per serving...what could be better than soup?! :D

    I've just made a chicken/veg soup using
    1 onion chopped
    1 carrot chopped
    1 large broccoli stalk chopped
2 chicken wings (last bit of sunday's roast, skin removed and bones fished out when the soup was cooked)
    1 chicken stock cube
    squirt of tomato puree
    approx 1 tsp soy sauce
    1 pint water
a handful of small pasta shells

tasted very nice and a portion left for tomorrow:T
