Changing Hair Colour

Thanks for the replies & info all...
In answer to a few of the questions:
I have a short bob (not quite chin length) with quite blonde highlights - like I said have been having them for years !
I only have a t-section though, so underneath is my natural colour - mid-dark brown.
I am very lucky I guess (at the grand old age of 37) to not have any grey hairs yet !
To be honest I hadn't thought about the upkeep of going red, at the moment I go to the hairdressers about avery 6-8 weeks & its sooo expensive.
I'll try the website & the other suggestions - holding up the colour against my skintone.
If I do take the plunge it will be after xmas as have my appointment for highlights done again next week.

Because it is very bad for your hair, does not work like a normal tint but stains the hair, causes a lot of allergic reactions, and is a nightmare to change x0 -

Live XXL contains peroxide like all permanent dyes, it definitely damages your hair. If you can't see that you are probably disguising that with products which contain silicones.glitter_fairy wrote: »Because it is very bad for your hair, does not work like a normal tint but stains the hair, causes a lot of allergic reactions, and is a nightmare to change x

I used Live XXL reds for many years, got most of the colour out with Colour B4. Got a little cuticle staining so that I ended up strawberry blonde (naturally mouse) but nothing major. From what I have read the main issue is that SOME of the shades contain silicones which with straighteners can cause to permanently bond to/ coat hair so the only thing you can do is cut it out.

Sorry to disappoint you. My hair is naturally mid-dark brown, normal thickness but about twice as much as a normal person (so a lot of it). I colour it probably once every 3-4 months. I don't use any products that contain silicone - no styling products or hairspray whatsoever. I only use a dryer or straighteners 2-3 times a week tops.
Have had 2 Brazilian blow dries in the past 2 years, neither of which made much difference at all.
I've used it on bleached panels and as an all over colour. It just hasn't/doesn't damage my hair at all.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

You aren't disappointing me hun! :rotfl: Do some research into cosmetic science/ chemistry. Peroxide DOES damage hair: it strips the lipids that holds the cuticle together (see f-layer 18-MEA). makes hair more porous and prone to hygral fatigue,, destroys structural proteins along with the pigments. It's like saying smoking is not harmful to health, it always is but the visible effects are greater or lesser in different people and there is a dose response.
What have Brazilian blow dries got to do a thread on permanent dyes??Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
If you go red and you don't like it, if you try go back to brown it will always be a really warm reddy brown at best and some orange thing at worse, try to go blonde it will be ORANGE! Want some highlights in your red hair? They will go orange too.
Going red is practically a livelong commitment depending how fast your hair grows.
Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there! :cool:0 -

Okay, but is smoking 1 cigarette every 4 months as damaging as smoking 20 a day? Of course it isn't. And in the same way that some people can smoke 20 a day and live for a hundred years, perhaps peroxide isn't as damaging as you say to every individual's hair. I was warned about hairloss when having my daughter - never happened. Perhaps everyone isn't the same.
My hair shows no sign whatsoever of being damaged. BBDs add protein (keratin) back into the hair before smoothing the cuticles back down. I've had 2 which made little difference, which rather implies that the hair cuticles weren't in bad shape, doesn't it?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
