How do I tell if Primus is active?

Hi All,
Sorry if this has been covered a million times before - I did search the forum but couldn't find an answer, so here goes
I've now got my Orchid V4 Plus Dialler and I'm supposed to go live with Primus Saver Option 2 tomorrow. Question is, when I plug in the dialler tomorrow, how will I know for sure that Primus have "switched me on" and I'm actually being routed through them rather than BT?
Cheers,
John

Before you plug the dailler in, make a phone call to someone you know won't be in. If it rings, you're connected to Primus. If you get a message saying 'sorry this service is not available' (or something similar), then you're not connected to Primus.
I know this because this has just happened to me.

That wouldn't work - the call will go out on whichever calls provider is active (BT before Primus has gone live and Primus afterwards).devon-gnome wrote: »Before you plug the dailler in, make a phone call to someone you know won't be in. You couldn't tell the difference, the call would connect.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Do you have to have a Dialer box with Primus?0

No, I didn't for a long time - but DECT phones with enough memories to store the likes of 'Peter - WKDY' and 'Peter - E&W' were very handy when I didn't!Do you have to have a Dialer box with Primus?
I don't think the previous thread asking the same 'how will I know?' question helps any either.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. This is a bit long winded, but will answer the query.
1) Check your bt calls since last bill total (0800 854 608)
2) Make a chargeable call that connects
3) Next day check bt calls since last bill total - if it hasn't changed your calls are going via primus. (If it has, then your calls are still going via BT)0 -

This did happen to me but thinking about it, perhaps it was because VirginTalk 'blocked' Primus from its reapplication as my CPS? (I had to use the Primus override number to stop going through Virgin - another story that I wrote a post on.)0 -
