British Gas compensation due. How much is reasonable?

They have asked me how much I want... This is odd I feel but I wondered if anyone has ever had compensation from BG and their circs. To give me a guideline on how much I should ask for.

Its all a bit odd to ask me how much I want isnt it?:rotfl:

It might help you get sensible answers if you tell us what it is for.

  • Basically a bodged combi install. Various errors and the area manager came out and said the lot will be re done. No acceptable 'making good' and denial of damage to floor. He said the engineer did what was easiest for him!

So, we have to decorate an extra room, have a stain from a leak on a ceiling, I need another day off work for the change of the work plus our oven doesn't work but I don't see how they could have broken it... But it was working, they came and moved it, now its not!

Why o why did I pay twice the price for this shoddy crap?!

Can you prove the cooker worked before, I cant see apart from it been not connected that it wouldnt work. Also can you prove the floor damage
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

You can claim the actual cost of rectifying any damage caused by them, plus a small amount for inconvenience.
Consequential loss (taking a day off work) is not going to be offered, if you want to go down that route then the the small claims process beckons.
What anyone else thinks you can ask or get is irrelevant, it's what is due and quantifiable as above that matters. That's how a court would decide it, not by plucking figures out of the air.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • That's just it. It's all plucking figures anyway really because we will decorate, the oven is neither here nor there as I don't see how they could have broken it... They had to return twice to.fix leaks already so the ceiling needs re doing too.

I just have no idea what is reasonable. My conscience won't be seeking unfair compensation, but the work really is so shoddy and not worth the payment they have received from the finance.
