Mark on Glass

Hey all,
This is a bit of a longshot I know.
Recieved a new coffee table today, but there is a small mark on the glass that is red(ish) in colour..
I can feel if with my finger, and if I run a pencil over the table it colours the mark in.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be, does it sound like something that can be removed, or something that is marked into the glass (it is tempered glass if that makes any difference). I did try rubbing it off with my nail, but it didnt seem to do anything.
